A few things come to mind when you think of the word “buttered”.
Yellow, silky, smooth.
Buttered are a four piece band from the Gold Coast blending groove driven soul with understated alt pop. Formed in 2019 by Jackson James Smith and Scott Dalton, the project has grown into a full band with Hemi Time on bass and Shoota Tanahashi on drums. What started as a songwriting partnership has become a tight live unit built on feel and instinct.
Their music is shaped in the room. Rhythm sits deep, harmonies drift in and out, and the arrangements leave space instead of filling it. The live show is not an extension of the recordings. It is where they begin.
Since forming, Buttered have independently released 25 tracks and surpassed 2.4 million Spotify streams, earning national radio support including consistent Triple J airplay. They have performed at Bluesfest Byron Bay in 2022 and 2023, Caloundra Music Festival and toured nationally off their own back as well as winning Breakout artist of the year at the Gold Coast Music awards in 2022.
In March 2026, Buttered release a live album that captures the band as they are now. Direct, cohesive and unfiltered. It marks a turning point ahead of new recordings later in the year with Melbourne producer Stephen Mowat.
At its core, Buttered is a live band focused on chemistry, longevity and making music that holds up in the same room it was written in.
